Nagios is the industry-standard in IT infrastructure monitoring.

Install Nagios

1. apt-get install nagios*
Do not forget the asterisk

2.  Afer the following message

After this operation, 421 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

Hit Y and continue the installation.

3. When you install nagios on a fresh install of debian you will get the mysql installation wizzard
Enter a root user password
nagios_mysql4. Repeat your mysql root user passwordnagios_mysql_repeat5. Next you will get a question about a LDAP administrator, I left this blank and continued the installation.

6. Enter a Nagios Web administration password

nagios_admin_password7. And repeat the Nagios administration password…..nagios_admin_password_repeat* Wait a few minutes while the installation continues*

8. MySQL question
nagios_mysql_question9. The debian installation I used was fresh so it had no pre-configured database.
Choose Yes

nagios_mysql_config10. Fill in the mysql administrative user password
11. Let the program choose a random password, leave the table blank and hit OK
nagios_mysql_password_random If everything went well the installation will be finished now.
You should be able to visit the nagios web interface through:
http://”ip”/nagios3

Default username: nagiosadmin
Password: “The one you set during the installation”

Nagios Trouble Shooting:

check if apache is running:
service apache2 status
check if nagios is running:
service nagios3 status

Nagios Web Interface:
